Delia Derbyshire, best known for creating the Doctor Who theme in 1963, would not have seen herself as a feminist icon, but as someone who broke through the barriers of many social and artistic conventions. Having a deep understanding of the nature of music and being at the Radiophonic Workshop inevitably led her to create something special, a highly complex piece of music concrete, one that flew in the face of the stereotypical avant-garde world.
As with other Radiophonic staff of the time, she received no individual credit or other reward for its arrangement. Even so, she remained at the Workshop for over ten years, producing atmospheric content for many radio shows, including Blue Veils and Golden Sands and Four Inventions for Radio, as well a vast amount of sound and music for television.
