How to View Stereo Pictures

To see these images as intended you will need special hardware, ideally a high-resolution monitor and a hand-held prismatic viewer. Please click on the above link for more information and instructions on the various ways they can be viewed. Tap to the left or right, or press your arrow keys, to move through the pictures in each collection. The images shown here mainly span the period from the 1890s to the 1920s.

1930s UK Tour

A unique home-made set of pictures, some involving people travelling around Britain on motorbikes and sidecars. The cards were creating by gluing the images to the backs of older stereo cards.

G A Howdle

A collection of pictures of uncertain date, probably spanning from Victorian or Edwardian times and later, marked with the name G A Howdle, who may possibly actually appear in one of the images.

World War I

Published some time shortly after the Great War, these images show the horrors and devastation caused by the conflict. A list containing the details for each image can be found here.

Underwood 'Sun Sculpture' Collection

A variety of images from around the turn of the century, typically of famous and exotic locations.

Underwood Collection

Mainly dating from 1881 to 1889, these cards show various scenes and places of interest.

Eaves Wood and Hebden (2025)

These images were taken on an iPhone 15 Pro in ‘Spatial’ mode. The resultant HEIC files were opened in Apple’s Preview app, which permitted the separate left and right images to be exported. These were then assembled into the Side by Side (SBS) format by means of GraphicConverter 12.

Other Cards

A wide range of pictures, including state occasions, posed tableaus, well-known locations and images of war.
